Silvicultural Management

Thank you for your collaboration.Since 2000, the silvicultural management of the Larose Forest has been under the jurisdiction of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. Prior to that, it was the responsibility of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.

Twice a year, the United Counties proceed with three to four tenders to harvest wood lots.

Since taking ownership of the forest, the United Counties of Prescott and Russell has obtained the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification (FSC® C018800) through the Eastern Ontario Model Forest's Forest Certification Program. The FSC® is an international, membership-based, non-profit organization that supports environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable forest management.

Protection and Development Plan

The Protection and Development Plan for the Larose Forest is a statement of scientific, historical and cultural information created by the Horizon Multiressource firm. This statement serves as a tool to manage the Larose Forest so that it is done with respect for the environment and the residents' values.

Five-Year Operating Plan

The Five-Year Operations Plan provides a schedule of forest operations for the 2016-2020 period. The plan also provides a summary of forest management activity over the previous five-year period and a revised annual harvest area calculation based on the results of ongoing monitoring. Prior to harvest, a site-specific forest operations prescription is developed by a registered professional forester which is applied by certified tree markers.

20 Year Forest Management Plan

The United Counties of Prescott and Russell are the owners of 10,944.7 ha (27,031.9 acres) of land, including forests and wetlands. The 20-Year Development Plan aims to insure a clear orientation and balance for the long-term management of this resource. This plan will serve as a management guide for forestry resources from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2028. This Plan was created in partnership with South Nation Conservation.
