Message from Warden Stéphane Sarrazin

Stéphane Sarrazin, UCPR Council Warden 2021As Council Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, I am very honoured to represent the County and on behalf of all members of Council, and I invite you to browse our website and learn more about our beautiful region. Over the course of my mandate, my role is to ensure that Council speaks together and works together with a strong and united voice.

My priorities for 2021 include major projects such as the construction of the new Prescott and Russell Residence, as well as economic development initiatives to help our businesses and farmers. In addition, the issue of our paramedics responding to calls outside of the UCPR remains a priority issue.

I would like to be present with our local organizations, maintain excellent relations with our Members of Parliament and continue our progress with the provincial government by improving our communications, opening up a direct line to various ministries, and above all, continuing our efforts on the issue of the widening of Route 17/174, which is close to all of our hearts.

I also plan to maintain our excellent communication with residents, regional organizations, the federal and provincial levels of government, as well as between the local municipalities. The level of communication between the local municipalities and the UCPR is essential, because regional communication is the key to our success.

The ongoing challenge for each of our municipalities brings different strengths and priorities. We must exercise good leadership and build on our common interests to allow our region to shine and continue to be a favourable place to live, work and having fun.

It is a privilege for me to take on this role at the head of our Council, which must continue to work together, from a regional perspective, to move forward with a united voice and to advance the priorities of Prescott and Russell, and all of Eastern Ontario.

Stéphane Sarrazin
2021 Warden

How the Council Works

The United Counties of Prescott and Russell are made up of eight lower-tier municipalities. The Mayor of each municipality sits on the United Counties of Prescott and Russell Council and acts on behalf of the municipality in Counties affairs. Council also elects a Warden on an annual basis. As the Head of Counties Council, the Warden conducts the Council meetings, sits on Committees, and represents the Counties at any meetings or official functions.

Council meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the County Building at 59 Court Street in L’Orignal.
