The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (the “UCPR”) confirm the election of the City of Clarence-Rockland’s Mayor, Mr. Mario Zanth, as Warden for 2026. Mr. Zanth was elected by acclamation at the annual Inaugural Meeting of December 17th.
Mayor of the City of Clarence-Rockland since 2021, Mr. Zanth began his political career in 2014 as a councillor. As a regional elected official, he has supported numerous community initiatives, infrastructure projects, and programs for vulnerable populations, while also being involved in charitable work and strengthening community ties.
In his remarks during the swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Zanth presented his priorities for 2026:
- Support the development of modern and resilient infrastructure, including the widening of County Road 17;
- Modernize regional policies in order to ensure better access to housing, promote sustainable development, and adopt innovative solutions in service delivery; and
- Establish a responsible, balanced, and flexible financial framework, allowing each municipality, large or small, to thrive in a sustainable environment.
“I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and express my sincere gratitude to the 2025 Warden, Mr. Yves Laviolette, who led our Council with integrity, dedication, and heart throughout the past year,” declared the 2026 Warden, Mr. Mario Zanth. “Together, we will pursue a bold, yet responsible, vision, and we will ensure that the Prescott and Russell region continues to be a place where citizens, families, and businesses can grow and thrive.”
During the Inaugural Meeting, outgoing Warden, Mr. Yves Laviolette, presented $46,000 to 11 community organizations in the region. These donations were made possible thanks to the Warden’s Fund, which are funds raised thanks to fundraising events organized during the year, including the Warden’s Golf Tournament and the Warden’s Banquet. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and the support of the community, the Warden’s Fund has allowed for the distribution of over $241,000 to charitable causes in the region since 2018.
